Matthew Swanson

Lead Interviewer

Matthew writes for a few different websites, including Stay Thirsty, a monthly publication focusing primarily on rock music related pieces. He also contributes over at Starpulse, a site that deals a lot with celebrity gossip, but it is an avenue for him to write about film, television, and make fun top ten lists. Perhaps his biggest achievement was writing, directing, and producing a play called “The Loitering Hole,” a comedy about infidelity set in a karaoke bar.

Swanson became interested in mixed martial arts when his roommate at the time, fighter manager and admin of this site, Kyle Stoltz, would watch the fights all the time on only television. Eventually, Matthew found himself completely hooked. The fighters are an inspiration for him to work out because, in his mind, if these guys can train ten times harder than the rest of the world twice a day, the least we can do is workout to a lesser degree five times a week or so.

At Fight Trader, Matthew has done numerous interviews with some big names, Cung Le, King Mo, and Chicago’s own, Shonie Carter to name a few. While he is always excited to talk to a good fighter, the interviews where the athlete is funny and interesting are his favorites. A dream interview would be a conversation with Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar at the same time, two of the funniest guys in the sport. Also, Jason “Mayhem” Miller is hilarious. Hey, we know it’s not all fun and games in the ring, but this happens to be Matthew’s angle in the sport.
