Interview with King Mo Lawal

King Mo Interview (Click me for audio!)

As Mel Brooks said, “It’s good to be the king.” Yes, but is it even better to be the champ? Yes, says Mohamed “King Mo” Lawal, coming off becoming the Light Heavyweight Champion of Strikeforce, but The King is staying grounded; he still feels like there are a number of areas where he can still improve, even his wrestling (he was a highly successful wrestler) could be better. That is what is most misunderstood about The King; he’s actually a pretty down to earth guy for a self-proclaimed king.

Mo then distinguishes between talking smack and just having fun. The distinction? He doesn’t say nasty things about his opponents; he just has a fun, flashy attitude and confidence.

What’s next for King Mo? Anyone who Strikeforce puts in front of him. Including Fedor? You’ll have to listen to find out . . .

We then learn what Lawal thinks about Floyd Mayweather, Jon Jones, Matt Hughes, Rampage Jackson, and Rashad Evans. Evidently, Mo maintains that there are a lot of fighters out there who portray a humble guy for the media, but when you meet them, they’re huge assholes. On the other side of that coin are the extremely confident guys who are cool as hell when you meet them.

And what’s next for The King’s theatrics? He assures us that he will always have something in store for us, even if he ends up in the UFC down the line where fireworks and grand entrances are not done like they are in Strikeforce. However, Mo is quick to tell us that he will have fun wherever he ends up.

King Mo, we’re having fun just watching you have fun. We at Fight Trader are wishing you continued success and a long reign as champ and an even longer reign as The King . . .
