WEC Bowles vs. Cruz Wrap-Up

Shake-up in the WEC

This past weekend MMA fans were treated to what can be considered the best fights in MMA this year. After Torres and Bowles both suffered a loss and Pulver’s retirement speech, not many cards in any organization could match this WEC event.

Most said that when Torres suffered his loss to Bowles it was a fluke. Torres lost to Benavidez in the First round by guillotine choke left Torres fans scrambling for answers. Torres also suffered a cut on his forehead that was on of the all time nastiest cuts in MMA.

In the next fight Cruz defeated Bowles for the bantamweight title. Cruz won by TKO in the second round. Bowles suffered another broken hand, a problem that seems to be reoccurring with the fighter.

Pulver’s retirement although not shocking given his last few fights, is still tough to swallow. He is one of the founders of this sport, a great fighter, and a great person. Even though he has had a string of losses he will also be a fighter that defeated BJ Penn in my mind.

Torres is suspended indefinitely from MMA due to his injuries, and Bowles will be out some time with his broken hand. The next logical bout would be between Cruz and Benavidez and Torres vs. Bowles.

Some fans have been saying that Torres is done due to the massive amount of damage to his face; Bowles has a hard time fighting and breaking hands. Are the two fighters done due to injuries that they have sustained from fighting?

It will be interesting to see what the WEC has in store for the fans in the next few months.
