UFC on Versus “Jones vs. Vera”

UFC on Versus 1 is set for March 21, 2010 in Broomfield, CO at the 1^st bank center.  It promises to be exciting fights with the likes of Jon Jones, Junior Dos Santos, Clay Guida, & James Irvin just to name a few.  UFC and MMA fans alike should rejoice at any opportunity to watch free MMA.

The card, although no title belts are on the line, which is to be expected on a free card has some very pivotal fights. 

Dos Santos must win this fight in order to be next in line for a title shot.  If he loses to Gonzaga it will be a stumbling block for Dos Santos, who will be removed from the top heavyweights in the UFC.  We all expect to see Dos Santos win this fight, and move into contention for the next shot at the UFC belt.  If Gonzaga wins, you will see him move back into the upper class of heavyweights, he will not be in line for a title shot even with a win.

Paul Buentello and Cheick Kongo should be an interesting fight.  Paul has great striking ability, so does Kongo.  Kongo has also been on the top of the heavyweights; however, he has suffered back to back losses.  This should be a great match between two fighters who love to bang it out.  Paul Buentello has fought for the UFC and Strikforce belts.  Paul looked good in his last two fights defeating Kirill Sidelnikov but losing to Stefan Struve. 

James Irvin and Alessio Sakara should be a stand up war that all can enjoy, both fighters will be looking for a KO victory.  Really have nothing to say about the ground game of either fighter.  Both fighters have the skills to KO each other, should be a fun fight to watch, don’t blink.

 “Bones” Jones is coming off of a loss due to illegal strikes to Matt Hamill.  Although this was a controversial decision, it is still Jones only loss in MMA.  He will be squaring off against the always dangerous Brandon Vera, who is also coming off a controversial UD loss to Randy Couture.  This should be a good fight.  This is a very even match with no clear pick winner.

Over all this appears on the face to be a good card, and a really good card for free.  It’s a can’t miss event.
