Vitor Belfort is out of the Anderson Silva fight!

February 12, 2010 by Matt Coffman

Just reported Vitor Belfort is out of UFC 112 with a shoulder injury.

Vitor Belfort has withdrew from the main-event title fight with middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The fight was scheduled for the UFC 112 event on April 10 2010. The event was the UFC’s first venture in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The Brazil-based Web site Tatame first reported the news, which was subsequently confirmed by Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole.

The Tatame report stated Belfort hurt his shoulder in training and will not be able to recover in time for the fight.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion and UFC heavyweight tournament champion made a forceful announcement of his octagon return this past September when he stopped former middleweight champ Rich Franklin in the main event of UFC 103.

This is a heavy blow to UFC 112. I’m not sure who the UFC will put in the cage against Silva now that Vitor is out. It is possible that the fight might be put on hold until Vitor’s shoulder heals. Many believe that Belfort had the best shot at taking away the belt from Anderson.
I hope that the UFC does not push Anderson in the cage against a Patrick Cote type fighter. We have all seen what that has done to Anderson’s image of not fighting the best fighters or finishing fights. I hope that the event is pushed back a month or two, because this is a super fight that I can’t wait to see.
