Interview with MMA Legend Shonie Carter

February 23, 2010 by Matthew J. Swanson

A conversation with longtime MMA star Shonie Carter is . . . an experience. Just when you think he is completely full of himself, he will say something that lets you in on the fact that it’s done tongue-in-cheek. Right when you think his stream of consciousness is going nowhere in particular, he will say something unbelievably funny that ties it all together. He can ramble about most any topic, but entertainingly so, with his self-proclaimed “spectacular vernacular.” Topics on this snowy Chicago day ranged across a wide spectrum from Speedos, fashion, to cock-blocking, and it lasted for over thirty minutes of unmitigated, pure, raw Shonie.

Shonie Carter Interview

In this podcast . . .

Shonie claims to be an innovator of underground fighting on video. Long before Kimbo Slice, “Mr. International” was delivering illegal elbows into some poor guy’s spine.

Shonie told us how he was the only contestant on the Ultimate Fighter reality show to be allowed to wear his own trunks during fights, his patented Speedo, and he went on to say how a Speedo in another man’s face can give a fighter an advantage.

As a fellow Chicagoan, Shonie and I talked about why there aren’t more guys from Chicago who still train in Chicago (not the suburbs), and is Shonie the man to unify Chi-Town and provide solidarity?

Hear what Shonie thinks about Lil’ John, T.I., and Floyd Mayweather, two out of three of whom were “talkin’ shit.”

Carter tells us how dressing nice and having a deep voice can get you exotic women!

Shonie tells fighttrader.com about his ambitions to be on dancing with the stars, and he tells us what he thought of Chuck Liddell’s dancing on the show.

“Mr. International” then tells us about his love for foreign women, where his “coochie-catchin’” reigns supreme, and his growing frustrations with American women, especially when he is cock-blocked.

Hear about his upcoming 75th fight in Quebec, Canada against Nabil “The Thrill” Khatib at Warrior-1: Bad Blood on March 20!
