UFC 108 Predictions and Gambling Odds

December 31, 2009

Locks:
Gray Maynard
Jim Miller
Junior Dos Santos

This card is very evenly matched from top to bottom.  Most of the fights on this card could go either way.  There is some potential to make some money on this card, especially if you believe some of the more established fighters on it could be upset by some of the tough unsung fighters they are facing.  I went with the underdog on five of my thirteen predictions.

Interview with UFC’s Matt Brown!

December 28, 2009

Matt Brown made a name for himself during his appearance on the Ultimate Fighter reality series as a skilled, determined fighter who carried the intensity he showed inside the octagon around the house with him, brewing just under the surface, ready to be unleashed.  He made it clear that he was not there to make friends, or make a name for himself with a contrived star power persona full of funny quirks to allure fans that way.  No.  He was th read more...

UFC 107 Preview

By: Ray Flores

UFC 107 Penn vs. Sanchez is one of the most compelling cards of the year. From top to bottom, this is a tremendous event, and each of the last three fights is worth the PPV price tag. The main event features BJ “The Prodigy” Penn (14-5-1) defending his UFC Lightweight title against TUF 1 winner Diego ”Nightmare” Sanchez (23-2). The co-main event is a heavyweight showdown between former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir (12-4) going head to head with dangerous striker Cheick Kongo ( read more...

BJ Penn (-275) vs. Diego Sanchez (+215)

Sanchez has two losses, both at 170 to AKA fighters Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck.  His best chance to win this one is by applying pressure and hoping that Penn will fade in the later rounds.  Although I think Sanchez will have some good moments later in the fight, I don’t believe it will be enough for him to get the nod in this one. read more...

What Happened to the Heavyweight Boxer?

December 9, 2009

“What Happened to the Heavyweights?”

For some time now the Heavyweight division has been on the decline.  Not too long ago it was the premier division.  Even people outside the boxing world loved Heavyweight fights; they were always the big fights.  Ten years ago you could ask someone who had never seen a boxing match in their life about boxing and I’m sure they would mention Tyson, Holyfield, or Lewis.

A few days ago I asked a friend of mine, who read more...

XFO 34 Curran vs. Hori- Bantamweight Showdown

By Ray Flores

XFO 34 Curran vs. Hori certainly lived up to all of its expectations and more as there were tremendous performances throughout the evening.  The main event saw Jeff “Big Frog Curran” (32-12-1) returning to the promotion he helped to start taking on the former Deep Bantamweight tournament champion Tomohiko Hori (11-3-3). A capacity crowd of well over a thousand jammed into the Lakemoor Banquet Facility in Lakemoor to see two world class bantamweights engage in what wa read more...

Williams vs. Martinez Fight of the Year

December 7, 2009

By Ray Flores

This past Saturday at Boardwalk Hall’s Ballroom in Atlantic City New Jersey, saw current WBC Jr. Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez and the most avoided fighter in boxing Paul Williams go head to head in an instant classic. For 12 rounds, Williams and Martinez went toe to toe pushing each other to the limit. Although the fight took place in the middleweight division of 160 pounds, these were the two best junior middleweights waging war against one another. What we saw were two sensational fighters with terrific crowd p read more...

The Ultimate Fighter 10 Season Finale

December 7, 2009

The conclusion to Season 10 of the Ultimate Fighter, the “Ultimate Finale,” was an action packed night.  Here’s what happened in case you missed it:

First up, two former NFL players, Matt Mitrione and Marcus Jones squared off, with Matt chalking up an impressive win over the bigger and stronger Jones, keeping Marcus from getting him to the ground where Marcus has made mince meat out of opponents by overpowering them, whereas standing up, Marcus doesn’t quite have the chops yet.  He literally fell down like a big tree.  “Ti read more...

Kimbo Slice (+220) vs. Houston Alexander (-280)

As important as it is for Kimbo Slice to win this bout, it’s also a must win for Houston Alexander. This fight should be everything that we expect it to be. Hopefully both chins will hold up long enough for us to get a good slugfest out of it. Reportedly, Kimbo is having difficulty making the 215 pound catch weight. I don’t see that causing him too many problems come fight time though. Kimbo is worth a look in this one at +220, due to Alexander not having the gr read more...
